Five Views of One Farm
PHOTO INFO To get that dark sky, I used selective color (pushed up the black and yellow in the blue and cyan) and curves adjustments. -- Kathleen Comments
Oh wow...what brilliant, almost surreal shots the last two are! Fantastic! Posted by John Bloor on April 24, 2005 2:36 AMHi, Definitely the last one! I love the vivid colors. I love that I can relate to each picture you take, becuase it reminds me so much of where I live, on a farm :) Posted by Sarah on April 24, 2005 10:59 AMAbsolutely breathtaking. Posted by anne on April 24, 2005 12:23 PMMy god look at those colors! Posted by Tara on April 24, 2005 12:37 PMThe colors are amazing in these photographs. Everything seems surreal; almost dreamlike. Images from the movie "What Dreams May Come" flicker through my mind's eye as I look at you work. Great job! Posted by Jared on April 24, 2005 1:17 PMAmazing sky! I love how all of your shots seem to carry this soft, unreal quality about them. Posted by Tai on April 24, 2005 2:12 PMThe last one is a surrealistic color delight! :) Posted by disneymike on April 24, 2005 6:03 PMnice, nice,... very nice! Posted by Tiago Venancio on April 24, 2005 6:14 PMLove the simplicity of your compositions, and really enjoy the contrast and saturation you put into your photos. Keep up the great work! Posted by Kenny (blaqenedwyte blog) on April 24, 2005 7:05 PMNumber five is very striking - I love the sky - you created the impact a storm on a sunny day! Posted by David on April 24, 2005 8:44 PMAwesome! Awesome! Awesome! Your eye for landscapes is incredible. The color and light...wow. Posted by Jeff on April 24, 2005 11:04 PMBeautiful - I like the "Farm Dog on Duty" one the best. Posted by Jennifer on April 24, 2005 11:12 PMI really like View III, but View V is my favorite. Astounding colors as always! Posted by Yamel on April 24, 2005 11:32 PMWow, what an amazing sky, absolutely stunning... Posted by flygirl on April 25, 2005 2:50 AMThese are all beautiful, but I especially love the first on with the expansive sky and the house on the horizon. Posted by laanba on April 25, 2005 7:48 AMWhat a fantastic series of this farm house. I took like them all and for different reasons. 1) Simply because of the minimal land and wonderful big sky. 2) I like the house through the vines, this perspective makes me feel like I am looking through the vines. 3) I like the sign on the tree and then the winding road to the house. 4) I like the way that sky and the hill lead you to the house. 5) The sky is so dramatic and the colors are so fantasic and then having that old tree soaking them both up is priceless. What a way to start my week. Thanks. Posted by Tom B on April 25, 2005 9:05 AMBreathtaking Picures. Posted by Marimo on April 25, 2005 9:09 AMHoly Crap! That last one is so amazing!! Can you a make a large desktop version!? :) You rock! Posted by steve on April 25, 2005 9:21 AMFarm View V is yet another masterclass in how to work colors effectively. Woof! Posted by BigA on April 25, 2005 9:56 AMWhat a wonderful series of photos. I am particularly fond of the third photo with the highly saturated colors, making the sky almost look stormy. Although I'm sure it's not the effect you were aiming for - I could easily see some of these shots being used for horror movies or something! Posted by Birdie on April 25, 2005 10:56 AMThe last one is a true work of art. And again my question is what lens settings did you use for this bunch of landscapes? The last time I thought you didn't even own a wide angle, but this just looks so "wide". Posted by Michael Czeiszperger on April 25, 2005 1:03 PMFantastic blue sky and the warm color of the ground! It's a great, great photo. Posted by mountainbread on April 25, 2005 2:49 PMi keep coming back Posted by june on April 25, 2005 4:52 PMFabulous... no other words. Perhaps envy. I like the last one. The way the tree stands infront of the sky in the background, I just love it. Posted by Wim on April 25, 2005 8:22 PMThese shots are great. The sky looks amazing. Posted by Matt on April 26, 2005 1:04 AMI really like these beautiful shots... especially the first and last ones. Posted by andrew on April 26, 2005 10:41 AMThe nice thing about photoblogs is that they are a place for inspiration for the viewer and a place for critiquing for the artist. I like most of the compositions a lot. What fantastic trees! The colors in the greens and yellows seem too saturated to me. Mainly in Farm View III. And overall each image seem just a tad dark. My favorite is Farm View V because of the simplicity of the shot. A wonderfully shaped tree against an exciting sky of clouds. Nice one. Posted by Tobin Rogers on April 26, 2005 12:54 PMYou changed colors so much that the photos look like shots from a theatrical performance. And it's a great show :) Posted by Jezebel on April 26, 2005 2:12 PMYAY YAY YAY to your color photos Kathleen! I love your b&w's (don't get me wrong), but thank goodness for sunny days and your color photos. :o) Posted by Kevin on April 26, 2005 2:43 PMFarm View V has the pathos like an Andrew Wyeth painting. Terrific! Posted by Mark on April 26, 2005 3:11 PMI love the last three! Posted by Jess on April 26, 2005 4:00 PMThese are all magnificent but Farm View V is stunning. Posted by djn1 on April 26, 2005 6:47 PMThat sky! Wow! Posted by Saroy on April 26, 2005 8:02 PMHOLLY COW! this is GREAT! Posted by ..pLaYgRoUnD.. on April 27, 2005 1:37 AMI realized that I like to look at the last picture every day. The blog hasnt changed since monday, but it is so good to realize every time: this calming tree is still there. Good. Posted by Andras Zsigmondi on April 27, 2005 2:27 AMthe hole set is just one thing: awesome!!! Posted by Liisa Anderson on April 27, 2005 5:07 AMsorry, "hole" of course should be "whole" Posted by Liisa Anderson on April 27, 2005 5:07 AMAs always Kathleen, just beautiful. Love viewIII. Coming Home. Posted by Noreen on April 27, 2005 9:03 AMTHE MOST AMAZING PHOTOS EVER! well done Posted by Ross Hillier on April 27, 2005 4:19 PMhaha, this is so awesome it's funny! The last one is just... well it's a dream. Posted by miles on April 27, 2005 5:56 PMAbsolutely beautiful. Love the powerful dark blue sky. Posted by Benedicte on April 27, 2005 8:16 PMFarm View III! Hands-down best photo I've had the joy to lay my eyes on in your blog!! Blimey, I really like the atmosphere created by the sky. Extemely oppressive and gives a vibrancy to the landscape. The colour truly jumps out at you. My preference has to be the last also, that tree. With this sort of light I get but a silhouette but you even managed to get detailing on it. Ominous... Posted by tobias on April 28, 2005 6:28 PMYeah, pretty clouds. Posted by scott on April 28, 2005 10:34 PMWOW Lovely captured of the sky's colors Posted by Adriana on April 30, 2005 1:43 PMEven though the colors are beautiful in all images, the last is the special one. While the other photos are a little "busy" in terms of composition, the last one with its simplicity and minimal composition make you breath the open space in the fields and the sky, as if being there.
