Jakey was welding a part of the manure spreader late this afternoon in the doorway of the farm's tool shed and I was lucky enough to get a few shots.
Post-processing: I shot this at ISO 800 with an exposure compensation of -0.7 to keep from blowing too much of the highlights around the welding area, so the background is quite dark. I've applied my usual curves adjustments, selective color saturation and de-saturation, some white brushing in 'vivid light' and 'color dodge' modes and a little bit of burning/dodging here and there.
Thanks again for dropping by Durham Township!
12/8 Update: Apparently I'm a finalist for the "Weblog 2005 Awards" in the category of "Best Photo Blog" - but I don't really know anything about these awards... seems a little funny to me. I've never heard of them and I didn't even know there was a nomination process. Anyway, if you're inclined to vote for this site, or any of the other very lovely photoblogs there, go right ahead! :) Just click on this icon:
I looked at all your pictures. I enjoyed them.
I'm forwarding your link to my 13 year old daughter who strives to be a photographer. I know she will enjoy your photos as much as I have.
It almost looks like a painting. I've been to you site before, off and on. I love your photos.
I guess you this image hasn't received all that many comment because people don't ordinarily think of you as a people photographer. personally, I think your people images are your best and this is spectacular - well composed and vibrant.
I really wish I could see this in print, just to see how well the post-processing holds up, but in some sense it doesn't matter. well done.
Another outstanding photograph.
Well done (and happy 2006)
A well deserved (photofriday) noteworthy. Must have been hard getting this picture without looking at the light.

A good photo picture of physically working people.
Seeing people doing their business is a nice reminder for me to get back to my own. Nice capture of the glow.
This is easily one of my favorite photos. It is a joy to look at. The colors, combination of soft and hard shadows and the composition are simply amazing. Thanks!
