Sunset Walk on Ice-Coated Snow

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

This photo was taken tonight just before sunset. The snow has a coating of ice on top of it, giving it that shiny effect -- and making it darn near impossible to walk on without sliding backwards! The black things sticking up through the snow/ice are old corn stalks.

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 24mm, ISO 200, shutter speed 1/250s, aperture f/22. Basic curves adjustment for contrast and saturation.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

One thing I've noticed about your photographs is you always have a human interest in the shots. It's fantastic, and always makes for an interesting shot. This one is superb.

Perfectly captured. It looks like fin sliding on the ice, although I wonder if those stubs of stalks could inflict a little pain if you have an unfortunate meeting with one on the behind. Ouch!

Fantastic shot ! I really like this one. The lone figure rounds it out just right.

Wow Kathleen. This shot is just super. I love the star of light, the shadows and the contrast between the sky and the snow.

Well composed, natural Image. I really like the dynamic range displayed in here.

At least you didn't have to "go to the dogs" for this fine shot. Just enough sun peeking through for good shadowing.

A frosty image. Looks like you escaped the dumping of the really heavy stuff.

Love the tilt, Kathleen! It's the perfect composition for such a slippery scene!

So clean, so fresh... Makes me breathe deeper.

Hah, you could pass that off for a genuine photo of the yeti! (no offense to the person in the photo. It's just that the jacket and strange pose along with the sunlight makes them look like an abominable snowman)

Beautiful. Love the light on the field.
