Smoke on Route 413, Through the Windshield

This is one of those weird shots that makes photography so much fun for me. I took this through my car windshield (or windscreen, if you prefer) going about 20 mph.

I noticed the crazy smoke from a distance and could see the traffic slowing ahead of me. As I got closer, I grabbed the camera off the passenger seat, put it on the dash and started firing away without looking through the viewfinder (eyes on the road, of course). Luckily I'd used the camera earlier that morning to shoot bright, snowy landscapes with a wide depth of field, so the camera settings were adequate for this sudden opportunity.

Less than technically ideal, but full of spontaneity. :)

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 35mm, ISO 100, shutter speed 1/160s, aperture f/18. Curves adjustments for contrast and saturation.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

My comment is going to be inadequte for sure, but.... I really love this and your other images.

Keep shooting, keep posting.

A fairy -like capture. The lighting is superb, the shades are brilliant!
Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

Kathleen, I've been browsing your archives and this one jumped out at me. Through the windshield? Now THAT makes me smile. (Where are the bugs?)

I like this for the light, but when I noticed the road tucked over there on the left, it gave it a movielike feel, as if I had slipped into a seat at the theater in the middle of a scene.

Great job, windshield or not!
