Onion Snow
PHOTOGRAPH INFO Another windshield shot taken Saturday evening during a brief but intense snow shower. I pulled over for this one, mostly because I had a car full of passengers. :) "Onion snow" is a term that refers to a spring snowfall after the onions have been planted. We usually get one right around Easter each year. There's a lot of detail in this image if you look at the larger version. Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments
Simply amazing... I just woke up and really wonder if my first morning web visit isn't stil a dream... Amazing I'm saying... Sun and snow together... We never got lucky enough to have this in Paris !!! this picture motivates me to go and try freeze the falling rain once again... Picturing a nice blue sky is easy, but freezing snow flakes like this in a ray of light simply amazes me :-) Wonderful, Thenk you for this Kathleen ! Posted by Cil on April 9, 2007 4:50 AMnice shot! Posted by Mostafa on April 9, 2007 5:16 AMNicely done. And you didn't limit your speed to 45. Posted by JPH on April 9, 2007 6:21 AMAbsolutely amazing! This photo has such great atmosphere and color. Nice job! Posted by Elisa on April 9, 2007 7:52 AMWow Kathleen. This is really beautiful. We saw some of this over the last few days. Posted by Laurie on April 9, 2007 8:15 AMAnother nice tonal image. Nice trees, Nice diagonal alignment between the shoulder stripe and the power lines. Never heard the term "onion snow." Love it. But for the absence of the dark circle in the center, I would have taken this for another two-and-a-quarter reflex shot. Thanks for pulling over to share, it's so real.
This picture is absolutely dreamlike. Posted by Paulo Ribeiro on April 9, 2007 5:56 PMNice atmosphere and colors. Beautiful tones. That's a nice backlightning. Posted by sylvainman on April 10, 2007 11:02 PMBeautiful fairytale quality to this shot. I've never heard that term before either (onion snow). Posted by Roberta on April 11, 2007 11:40 PMThis shot reminds me of home in Chester County. I love the shot. It's the kind of snow where you can't resist cracking the window to feel it when driving through it. Kathleen - did I ever tell you that I started my blog after looking at yours for 2 years.
